🐀 rat goes off broadway

🐀 I love Off-Broadway, Off-Off-Broadway, and Off-Off-Off-Broadway—and sewers.

If this is the first email you're receiving, thank you for joining and welcome! The Mischief Movement is growing rapidly, now with over 4,000+ passionate theatre rats. We do multiply quickly. 👀

We're here because we know there's something special. Theatre and art aren't supposed to be just transactional. Theatre is meant to ignite something—a conversation, a debate, a movement. It can change your mind, and it can touch your heart.

Oh, and yes, we also have show reviews and give away free tickets each week.

THE RAT’S RECOMMENDATION:
SAFE HOUSE”
Cheese Score: 🧀🧀🧀 🧀(4/5)

Description: Grace, a young woman seeking safety, transforms a handball court into a world of song, sound, and memory.

Why you should care:

  • Dreamlike - This play floats across time and space. The narrative spins and whirls in a kind of impression. It follows what feels like a non-linear and illogical path and it has such moments of intensity, surprise and revelation that it feels like a dream.

  • Killer Vocals - Kate Gilmore (Grace), absolutely kills the songs in this show and sings with Irish charm, beauty and grit.

  • Poetic, Irish - This is not a traditional play. If you’re looking for something a little experimental, out there, and wild, then this is for you. With poetic, theatrical abstraction and lyrical depth, this performance and writing have layers—lots of them.

  • Projection madness - This show is like if “Where the Wild Things Are” met your drunk Irish uncle. This play has brilliant and unusual projections and the use of pre-filmed footage creates a collage of character and costume.

Show Duration: 90 minutes
Location: NYC Brooklyn - St Ann’s Warehouse
Who to bring: Your Irish friend, your friend who thinks they have irish/scottish/english ancestry, your experimental theatre friend, your pint of guinness.

Tips: Go through the Time-out market beforehand a get a bite to eat, watch the waves outside.

🐀🐀 Rat Readers

Each week we round up the best reader’s comments - this was from last week’s show English!

“Oof this hit me deeper than I expected. The pressure of trying to be the best at something and deciding which path to choose…give up, sell out, or maintain your integrity and keep trying. […] I thoroughly enjoyed seeing Iranians portrayed in very humanizing and relatable roles. I hope this inspires others to produce similar dramas which further explore race and identity from more international perspectives. No better time than the present. ”
